We recently held our Community of Practice for Disability Support Workers Extending on the Possible Forum. This dynamic forum, held over 5 days in Kalgoorlie provided a range of professional development, wellness and networking activities designed specifically for Support Workers in the region to feel more supported in their roles.
The week launched with our Forum Expo that highlighted local organisations and services, giving support workers and participants a chance to explore what the community has to offer. The forum was officially opened by City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Councillor Kyron O’Donnell, with Hon. Ali Kent, local MP, also attending to show her support.

Designed with input from Support Workers and the wider community, the forum featured a diverse program of events. Professional development sessions covered topics such as: How to Advocate as a Support Worker, Positive Behaviour Support, Supporting Clients Experiencing Family Domestic Violence and Cultural Training.

Recognising the emotionally demanding nature of support work, the forum also prioritised wellness activities as a key pillar in the forum. Attendees were invited to participate in activities like Tai Chi, outdoor meditation, journaling, and sound meditation —offering a chance to relax, recharge, and reflect.

A standout moment of the week was the Allied Health Panel, which brought together five local allied health professionals. The panel explored the critical collaboration between Support Workers and allied health teams, offering valuable insights and practical strategies for building strong partnerships.

The forum concluded with a vibrant networking sundowner, where Support Workers, local organisations, and community members came together to celebrate a successful week and forge meaningful connections.

We are deeply grateful to the Goldfields community, participating organisations, and the Department of Communities for their support in bringing this forum to life. We have many more exciting professional development and wellness events upcoming this year and planning is already underway for our 2025 forum which will be held in June and will focus on Career Pathways for Support Workers. This exciting forum will explore career development opportunities, continuing our commitment to empowering Support Workers in the Goldfields region.
