Kin Disability Advocacy Announces Newman Office Closure

An End to In-Place Independent Disability Advocacy Services in the Pilbara Region

Today, [19/06/2023] – Kin Disability Advocacy announced the closure of their Newman Office which was formally known as Pilbara Disability Advocacy, due to the Department of Communities’ failure to provide ongoing funding for the service.

For the past seven years the Newman office has proudly served as the only in-place and independent disability advocacy service in the Pilbara region. However, due to the unavailability of funding, it is with a heavy heart that we must close our doors.

Wendy Rose, CEO of Kin Disability Advocacy said, “The agency has been notified there is no longer funding available to continue with this service. Kin has been dedicated to providing a specialist service for Aboriginal and Ethno-Culturally and Linguistically Diverse people with disability, their families, and carers in the Pilbara. We are deeply concerned that we are having to close our doors, especially as the only in-place option available in the Pilbara region. We advocate for people whose first language is not English, do not usually have access to their own mobile telephone nor use technology to navigate complex systems. ”

Effective from 23rd June, 2023, Kin Disability Advocacy will be unable to assist clients at our Newman Office, as we proceed with the closure process. We kindly request that all enquiries after this date be directed to our Perth office at 1800 659 921 or via email at [email protected].

For any media enquiries or additional information, please contact Wendy Rose at 08 9388 7455 or mobile on 0411 144 209.
