Etiene croipped

Meet Etiene

Etiene is one of our Community Ambassadors, and this is his story.

My name is Etiene Ndambara.

I was born in DR Congo, I was a Theology teacher, due to the Daily War that occurred in my country, on the 26/02/2013 my family and I were attacked by bad people. They hit me on my back with a big stick, and as a result I became disabled for rest of my life.

I arrived in Australia in 2018 as refugees, towards the end the year so when I got here, I began treatment for my back problem, but I was not getting better and as a result, I started losing hope in myself, but for us who believe in God, we believe than even at the last minute we can get a solution to our problems, so I kept going.

In 2019, the Red Cross received my family and helped us to Settle in and they also connected me with a KIN Disability Advocacy advocate. I met and started talking to the advocate several times, I knew I could trust her, and I shared all my stories about my life.

Since then till now, Kin Disability Advocacy (KIN) continues being on my side and connecting me with NDIS. NDIS has given all the help that I need due to my condition, I have also been connected with Homes West (Department of public housing).

Now I am an ambassador at KIN, I agreed to be an ambassador so that I can help people in my community or church members to know more about disability rights.

Due to my experience, I encourage everyone who has similar problems to come and join Kin Disability Advocacy.

Thank you very much, Etiene Ndambara.
