Issue addressed
The Digital Communications project was developed in order for us to better communicate with our clients and general audience in a more innovative and contemporary manner.
The benefits to our clients/audience include a decrease in social isolation, access to culturally and linguistically appropriate emotional and social support from peers, timely access to multilingual information directly and indirectly related to disability and enhanced community participation.
What we did
a new website was designed, a facebook page was created for EDAC and the Online Peer Support Network was established (OPSN).
The OPSN is a safe space for individuals from CaLD backgrounds with a disability to come together and share experiences, share information, ask questions and do it all in their own language.
Outcomes
A key implementation strategy for this project was the recruitment of bilingual and bicultural community ambassadors. Their role is to connect members of their community and link them with programs and services we provide and may be beneficial for the individual.
Initially, our community ambassadors connected community members to the Online peer Support network, however, their role has since grown to other areas of the organisation. With additional funding received, ambassadors will be receiving additional training to improve their engagement skills and better prepare them to work with their communities.
